Individual Therapy

I provide short- and long-term individual therapy for adults and adolescents (aged 14 and over) facing a range of psychological challenges and life difficulties.

This includes anxiety, depression, phobias, insomnia, relationship difficulties, excess stress, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, bipolar mood disorders, anger management problems, low self-esteem, significant life events/changes, and bereavement. I also work with individuals who come to therapy struggling with not feeling good enough about themselves and/or not feeling content with aspects of their lives, behaviours, or relationships, who are wanting to make use of therapy to improve themselves or their situations in some way.

I have a special interest in treating the effects of trauma or other distressing events. I am a certified Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing practitioner. I am also trained in BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT).

If you are unsure whether or not I am an appropriate therapist for the issue you are dealing with, feel free to contact me first before making an appointment.

Duration

The duration of therapy depends largely on the nature of the issue/s for which you are coming to therapy. Some issues can be targeted quite quickly (2 - 8 sessions), whereas others will take longer. During the first session we can discuss this when we discuss your goals for therapy.

Sessions are usually 50 or 90 minutes, depending on what we decide together is most appropriate for your goals. Generally, 90 minute sessions are recommended for trauma reprocessing sessions.

What to expect in the first session

In the first session we discuss what you are coming to therapy for, and I ask some questions to try to get to know you and your situation better. I will ask you for some relevant history and background information, and try to get a sense of your current situation. We will usually also discuss your goals for therapy, i.e. what you would like to happen in order to feel like the therapy has been helpful/effective, and then plan for further sessions accordingly.
