Workshops and Presentations

I provide workshops and presentations on mental illness or strategies to improve mental health to schools, businesses, NGOs and other organisations.

One in three South Africans suffers from mental illness, but many people do not have the knowledge necessary to recognize it in themselves and others, or know how to get help. Often it takes something serious happening in an institution for the issue of mental health to be given attention. Organisations and schools are increasingly realizing the importance of providing knowledge to their employees/students to support them.

Knowing some of the factors that influence mental health can help individuals to recognize when their mental health is compromised, and also to engage in behaviours that strengthen their mental health. Having a supportive community (e.g. colleagues, classmates) that understand the challenges and can provide support can make a huge difference. A community can also help to provide support for behaviours that improve mental wellness (e.g. group exercise routines).

Workshops are interactive. They include components were I present information about mental illness and factors that benefit mental health, as well as group and individual exercises designed to help participants apply the knowledge to their own lives and problem-solve challenges. Presentations are generally shorter and focus more on the informational aspect. Both workshops and presentations can be tailored to the needs of the organisation.

Examples of workshop and presentation topics include:

  • Mental illness awareness: How to recognize the signs of mental illness
  • Strategies for improving your mental health
  • Mental health issues for teenagers and adolescents

Please feel free to contact me with other workshop topics related to mental illness or psychology that you would like to deal with in your organisation. I am happy to tailor the presentation or workshop to your specific needs, provided it is within my expertise.
